October 2026 Working Party
Dear Plot-holders,
Please see below a message from Andrew Wong, Working Party organiser. Also, see attached some photographs of the day.
Dear All,
A huge thank you to all 35 members who participated in today's working party at Highbury South Allotments!
It was wonderful to see so many members coming together, generously giving their time and energy to improve our allotment site. Thanks to everyone's hard work, enthusiasm and teamwork, we managed to accomplish a tremendous amount today!
I would particularly like to thank everyone who contributed to the following tasks:
- Bonfire Area: Clearing and tidying up the area, creating more space and making it safer and more organised for future use.
- Toilet Access Ramp: Repairing the ramp to improve accessibility and safety for all members.
- Shed Construction: Working together to build and put up the shed, providing valuable facilities for our allotment community.
- Wood Treatment at Highbury Gate: Applying protective wood treatment to help preserve the timber, protect it from the weather and extend its lifespan.
- Grass Cutting: Cutting back overgrown grass and tidying up communal areas to keep our site looking welcoming and well-maintained.
- Tree Pruning: Pruning trees and removing unwanted branches to improve growing conditions and allow more sunlight into the surrounding areas.
- Hedge cutting, both inside and outside of the perimeter.
A very special thank you to Peter Wilkinson who pruned back the branches of a very large tree which was shading almost half of a plot plus some errant shrubs blocking access to the paths.
Every contribution, no matter how big or small, has helped make our allotment a better place for everyone. Today's achievements are a wonderful example of what we can accomplish when we work together. Also, thank you to David and his team for providing the lunchtime catering.
Working parties are not just about maintaining and improving our site; they are also a great opportunity to meet fellow plot holders, share experiences, build friendships and strengthen our allotment community.
I hope everyone enjoyed the day and feels proud of what we achieved together.
Once again, a heartfelt thank you to all 35 volunteers for your time, dedication and fantastic community spirit!
I look forward to seeing you all again at our future working parties.
Best wishes,
Andrew
